EARSHOT RECOGNIZED BY NARM FOR MARKETING AT 2009 AWARDS
Comedian Christian Finnegan presents the Narm Outstanding Achievement Award for Marketing to Christopher Ashley (Marketing Director/Buyer) & Jack Dennis (President/Owner) at the NARM awards banquet at the San Diego Marriott on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Earshot was recognized for its highly effective and creative campaign utilizing print and web media, store signage, in-stores, concentrated social network marketing and various other techniques to increase overall sales in its heavy metal department. More about NARM: NARM (the National Association of Recording Merchandisers) is a not-for-profit trade association that serves the music content delivery community in a variety of areas including networking, advocacy, information, education and promotion. NARM members account for an estimated 90% of the music sold in the $8 billion U.S. music market. DIRTY PROJECTORS BITTE ORCA CD The follow-up to 2007's critically acclaimed and Domino debut "Rise Above". Their fifth release is a big rock album by design. Its idiosyncratic and sincere take on popular music is reminiscent of David Byrne with whom Dirty Projectors collaborated on "Knotty Pine" for the 2009 compilation "Dark Was The Night". In many ways, group leader David Longstreth could be seen as this generation's answer to Byrne, a distinctive torchbearer of labyrinthine song arrangements that go down easy.

JAMES BLACKSHAW THE GLASS BEAD GAME CD Utter brilliance from British 12-string guitar virtuoso James Blackshaw on his debut for Michael Gira's YOUNG GOD imprint. Blackshaw combines the sounds of traditional folk with minimalist classical composition to create a fresh and exciting take on folk music. Comparisions can be made to John Fahey and Jack Rose jamming with Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Philip Glass and you are getting the idea. One of the better releases we have heard this year! Open your ears to healing sounds of Mr. James Blackshaw. |
AMESEOURS AMESEOURS CD When I first read about Neige of Peste Noire and Alcest having a new project combining black metal, post-punk and new wave, I was more than skeptical. How could this work? Well, to my surprise it works rather well. Neige passes off the clean vocals to Audrey Silvain and focuses on black metal shrieks. The more I absorb this release the more I enjoy it. Tracks range from french new wave influenced pop (think Alcest with some synth and female vocals) to brutal, melancholic black metal epics. Not recommended for close-minded metalheads! One of the best releases of this year. Decibel gave it a 9! |
BLANK DOGS UNDER & UNDER CD Brooklyn's BLANK DOGS graces us with his (yes, there's just one Blank Dog) second proper full length Under and Under. Although, the mysterious BLANK DOGS have released countless 12" eps, and 7" eps in limited runs on various smoking hot labels, WOODSIST, SACRED BONES & his own label CAPTURED TRACKS, Under and Under sees release on garage rock label IN THE RED. The sounds on Under and Under could be easily compared to synth-punk/new wave post-punk, not unlike FAST FORWARD and the early 2000's offerings from west coast label GSL. Of course, there are plenty of references to JOY DIVISION, THE CURE AND BAUHAUS, but in a lo-fi, garage/bedroom-psych kind of way. "Setting Fire to Your House" is the jam! Don't sleep on this! |

NY-based Amazing Baby released their critically acclaimed "Infinite F*cking Cross" EP via free download in 2008. They were the subject of an NME Radar feature in July 2008 and a Rolling Stone Top Singles review in January 2009, among other early press raves and blog ramblings. "Rewild" is a collection of songs self-produced with limitless imagination. This album finds the band making sonic leaps complimentary to, yet well beyond the EP. Think a psychedelic T. Rex with a little ELO in the mix. Hooks galore. Features Don Devore of The Icarus Line, Ink and Dagger, Souls She Said, Lilys and Frail on bass.
