BEHEMOTH EVANGELION *ON SALE*
The unissued film soundtracks to legendary UK horror director Norman J. Warren's Terror (1979) and Prey (1978), both composed by one of TV and radio's most prolific arrangers, Ivor Slaney (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Double Deckers, Ren & Stimpy, De Wolfe Music Library) and features dark proto-synth wave, electronic hip-hop, folk/soul and dirty cabaret rock. Joel was one of the first record collectors to compile original soundtrack/library music back in 1997 for the legendary Bite Hard LP (BBE), a retrospective of the famous UK-based De Wolfe label, which has since been sampled by the likes of Jay Z and Kool G Rap. GEORGE STRAIT TWANG *ON SALE*

REIGNING SOUND LOVE AND CURSES
It's been five years since Greg Cartwright's Reigning Sound dropped their last full-length studio album, Too Much Guitar. Not that Cartwright has been resting on his laurels. The Reigning Sound backed Shangri-La Mary Weiss on her critically acclaimed comeback album, Dangerous Game, which was produced and largely written by Cartwright. The band performed with Weiss on tour, including an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Cartwright also produced, penned songs for, and played in The Detroit Cobras for a spell. All the while, the Reigning Sound toured the US on and off and released a couple of live albums, yet never managed to get into the studio to record. All the while, Cartwright stockpiled loads of new tunes. Finally, late last year, the band entered Ardent Studios in Memphis and laid down a bunch of songs. Some months later, they went into Echo Mountain Studios in North Carolina and recorded a bunch more. In the end, the band had more than enough for two albums, and carefully whittled it down to the cream of the musical crop. |

Peter immediately sets out to rectify the situation, embarking on a series of bizarre and awkward man-dates, before meeting Sydney Fife (Jason Segel, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), a charming, opinionated man with whom he instantly bonds. But the closer the two men get, the more Peters relationship with Zooey suffers, ultimately forcing him to choose between his fiancée and his new found bro, in a story that comically explores what it truly means to be a friend. |

DIRTY PROJECTORS BITTE ORCA CD The follow-up to 2007's critically acclaimed and Domino debut "Rise Above". Their fifth release is a big rock album by design. Its idiosyncratic and sincere take on popular music is reminiscent of David Byrne with whom Dirty Projectors collaborated on "Knotty Pine" for the 2009 compilation "Dark Was The Night". In many ways, group leader David Longstreth could be seen as this generation's answer to Byrne, a distinctive torchbearer of labyrinthine song arrangements that go down easy.

JAMES BLACKSHAW THE GLASS BEAD GAME CD Utter brilliance from British 12-string guitar virtuoso James Blackshaw on his debut for Michael Gira's YOUNG GOD imprint. Blackshaw combines the sounds of traditional folk with minimalist classical composition to create a fresh and exciting take on folk music. Comparisions can be made to John Fahey and Jack Rose jamming with Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Philip Glass and you are getting the idea. One of the better releases we have heard this year! Open your ears to healing sounds of Mr. James Blackshaw.

ASTRA THE WEIRDING CD Now that the term ‘Prog’ is no longer considered a four letter-word, the world is ready for a band like San Diego based Astra, who actually make the term vital and effortlessly cool. Their Psychedelic brand of Progressive Rock manages to avoid the ghastly, self-indulgent cliché’s that predominated the bloated gut of its bad hair styled mid-seventies/early eighties definition. Astra make timeless music for timeless people. Their sound is a true breath of fresh air in these generally stagnant times. The care and attention given to every detail within The Weirding displays a dedication that is these days seldom seen or heard. A definite must for fans of early 70's underground European Prog Psych, The Weirding is an absolute monster that is destined to be a future classic!

The improv duo Bad Secrets delivers dark, weird, and hypnotic jams on their debut release. The band, comprised of Evan Patterson (Young Widows) and Dan Davis (Kodan Armada), is built around a guitar-vocal-and-drums foundation. Conceived, recorded, and mixed over three weekends in late 2007, the lo-fi nature of this seven-track mini-album works to Bad Secrets' advantage, setting an overall mood of drunken, haunted desperation. Patterson's unique and twisted guitar twang mixes with distant howls and Davis's rumbling, primal drum work. Bad Secrets successfully channels the energy and soul of blues, the mesmerizing spirit of shoegazer and psychedelia, and the harsher "dropped out of life" elements of desert rock. Seven varied songs (none over three-and-a-half minutes long) are crammed onto this unique nine-inch vinyl record, which comes with an accompanying CD of the same tunes and is housed in a silk-screened jacket hand-made by the band members themselves.

Just as sinister and terrifying as the Dario Argento/Ennio Morricone soundtracks, but slightly more leering and cheeky.
